When should “et al.” be used in APA reference style?
Blog Article
In APA style, “et al.” is used in in-text citations when a source has three or more authors. Only the first author's surname is listed, followed by “et al.” and the year.
Example:
(Smith et al., 2020)
In the reference list, "et al." is used only when a work has 21 or more authors. In this case, list the first 19 authors, followed by an ellipsis (...) and then the final author’s name.
Example:
Smith, J., Doe, A., Brown, P., ... Taylor, M. (2020). Book Title. Publisher.
